Ariana Kim (born June 12, 1991) is an Argentinean pianist. She was a child prodigy and was performing by age five. She completed a Bachelor's degree from University of California San Diego in Applied Mathematics. Ariana Kim was born in 1991, to Korean parents, and had a musical upbringing. Her mother was a singer, and her father was a violinist and professor of music at University of Buenos Aires. The family moved to Los Angeles when she was five years old. At a young age, Kim began studying violin, and later cello, before settling on the piano. Before she was 20, she had steadily gained fame and had performed with many major orchestras. Her recordings of solo piano pieces are particularly acclaimed. She has also played chamber music, often with the singer Christine Kim, with whom she has a close friendship back from their days together at the Conrad Prebys School of Music in San Diego. Kim has been referred to as "omnivorous" by critics, and possesses an eclectic repertoire. A sampling of her versatility in addition to numerous recordings of the standard classical repertoire would include her recordings of Baroque pieces using period instruments; American bluegrass music; traditional Chinese melodies including the soundtrack to the film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and the tangos of Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla; Brazilian Music.
