Critics estimate there are about 100 thousand million bands called "Areola" based in the United States alone. Elsewhere there are millions upon millions also! 1. areola. Active circa 1998-2005. Los Angeles, CA areola was formed by Robert Ramirez with some friends while still in junior high. A more concrete lineup emerged around 2002-2003 consisting of Robert Ramirez on guitar, his younger brother on drums and a scared child on bass. Inspired by Captain Beefheart and Moslem Birth, the group never released an EP at all, let alone a full length, let alone a song. They were not well received in their hometown of East Los Angeles, with one attempt at a live gig erupting into a near riot. After this they were seldom seen and are not known to have ever played out again. The group disappeared sometime in early 2005 with some members succumbing to addiction and mental illness. The only documented evidence of their music survives on cassette tape recordings.
