The band grew up in Udine, Italy 1994: their first intention was to use the power of traditional music to make people dance and party: the musicians were all convinced that folk music was becoming too intellectual and was losing touch with people. Their name, “Bad Weeds” in the Friulian language, is a comment on the bond between the band and its homeland. They began playing all over (over 500 concerts in 14 years) beginning from pubs and small villages fairs and concluding with big festivals in Italy (Folkest, Onde Mediterranee, Etnica, Ariano Folk Festival, Mediterran Festival), Europe (Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Sweden, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Spain) and South America (Argentina and Uruguay). Almost all the songs are written by the band. The lyrics are in Friulian, Italian and Slovenian (the three languages spoken in the region). The music uses a mix of traditional (violin, mandolin, accordion, flutes, horns) and modern (electric guitar, drums) instruments and is very suitable both for dancing and for listening: the influences come from every corner of the world but the most characteristic aspect of the band is the mixing of punk rock attitude with popular roots and lyrics. In 1998 they won “Premi Friul” (Friulian Festival of new musical trends) with the blues-experimental project “Croz Sclizzaz” together with the Friulian poet and singer Fabian Riz.
