Artist
mpossibly funky drummer Ed Apple Nelson lived in LA but grew up in New Orleans. He was a total hustler, swapping women & drugs around while trying to tall tale his way into a recording career. But whenever he played the drums, everything turned upsidedown. His insane way of cutting up the beat, interrupting it even before it gets there, is magically, instantly reminiscent of Arizona's Dyke & the Blazers. You can hear bits of the Meters & Sly Stone as well, and it's all funnelled through the fads of 70s Los Angeles, making this some of the most perfect music ever for driving through a shitty neighborhood. Only singles were ever released at the time & the master tapes were ruined by Hurricane Katrina.
