Artist
Nourished on old folk songs, Appalachian Karma is the folk/rock project of the french songwriter Pierre Souq. Known as a singer, guitarist and banjo player in Paris, he's following the footsteps of American Primitivism to compose folk songs and murder ballads, evoking the american spirits he loves (ghosts, poets, animals, indians, slaves, cowboys) with voices and instruments. His influences are, amongst others, Skip James, Son House, Leadbelly, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, 16 Horsepower, Woven Hand, Mark Lanegan, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis; his texts draw worlds from the Transcendentalist Movement (Dickinson, Emerson, Muir, Thoreau, Whitman, etc.). Appalachian Karma finished his third album, “Transcendentalism”, in November 2012, referring to american literature and german idealism.
