Apakalips, a fitting pseudonym for such a dynamic emcee, whose positive lyrics & vivid storytelling ability are sure to triumph over the hum drum of mainstream Hip Hop. Attempts to stay original and not follow trends have become less common; however, Apakalips strives to bring individuality and quality back to rap music, thus representing the B-BOY mentality. Although he grew up during the classical Hip Hop era listening to artists like KRS-1, Rakim, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, he was greatly influenced by the musical precursors of Hip Hop, such as funk, soul, jazz and rock. His musical taste runs the full gamut of genre. He began rapping in high school but it wasn’t until college that he recorded his first song, which was the result of a homework assignment to write a poem and submit it for the class portfolio. He didn’t stop there of course, later he co-founded Lyrical Discipline, an organization that strives to uplift the community through Hip Hop, and began to DJ and host local rap battles throughout the Northern California Bay Area. His content brings major issues occurring throughout our country to the forefront, demanding of the listener to seriously consider his topics. His personal beliefs are a reflection of not only himself but also of the Universal Zulu Nation of which he is a member.
