Antonio Archilei' di S Fiore or more simply Antonio Archilei (born on 12th of March 1543 at Albano - died on 1st of January, 1612 in Florenc ) was an Italian singer, composer and lutenist of the second half of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century. In 1589 , Antonio Archilei is, with Luca Marenzio , Cristofano Malvezzi , Giulio Caccini , Jacopo Peri , Emilio de' Cavalieri and Giovanni di Bardi , one of the composers of the musical Interludes of " La Pellegrina ", comedy by Girolamo Bargagli , created for the celebrations given in Florence on the occasion of the marriage of the Grand Duke Ferdinand I of Medici and Christine of Lorraine . These interludes are of great historical interest because, with the adoption of the style of concertante music, they are considered the most direct "ancestors" of opera . It was an opportunity for Antonio Archilei to give his most famous work: Dalle più alte sfere , still performed today. In the last years of the 16th century , when famous singers and singers performed more frequently before private assemblies than in public performances, madrigals arranged as solos in a lyrical work gave them the opportunity to emphasize the qualities of their voice. The singing of one-voice madrigals had become a very popular genre in which famous prima donnas such as Vittoria Archilei or eminent tenors such as Jacopo Peri excelled .
