Artist
Anton Fils (1733-1760) - also Antonín Fils, Johann Anton Fils, Johann Anton Filtz - was a German composer of the classical period. Fils was born in September 1733 in Eichstätt, Germany. In 1754 he became part of the "Mannheimer Hofkapelle" as a cellist. The Mannheim orchestra at the time was conducted by Johann Stamitz. In 1759 Fils married Elizabeth Range. He died very young, at the age of twenty-six, and was buried on 14th March 1760 in Mannheim. Despite his early death, he left an extensive body of work, including at least forty symphonies, which he had written for the Mannheimer Hofkapelle. Nevertheless, his music came to be mostly forgotten, and has only been recently rediscovered. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
