After having spent much of his youth listening to hip-hop and euro-dance, and other pop music, Anton Banks became exposed to independent and underground music during his time at University. He found that he especially liked the beats and rhythms found in pop music but was becoming increasingly disinterested in the lyrics. Looking for something different, he borrowed a compilation CD from a friend. That CD was the seminal "Moove Your Body" release on Tribal America Artists. It would have a lasting effect on his musical tastes. Anton soon dropped all ties to the pop music scene and began collecting all the rave and house CDs he could find. As his interest in electronica grew he began to seek places where the music he enjoyed could be heard. Anton was quickly drawn to the local college radio stations since they were always playing the newest music. A short time afterwards, he decided to join his school’s radio station. It instantly became clear that radio was something that he enjoyed doing. Anton used the opportunity to learn to mix records- something he had not done until that time. Through the station, Anton met other people with similar interests and ties to local party promoters. In 1996 Anton got his first booking at the now legendary Equinox weekly (Webster Theater in Hartford, CT from 1996 to 97).
