Angélica Castelló was born in Mexico City in 1972 into a family of non-musicians but music lovers... especially the music of the Beatles. She started playing the recorder at the age of 8 in the primary school "Maestro Fausto Bravo Gomez" with maestra Irma, the repertoire of the first 4 years was the Mexican National Hymn and "La Vikina"- with both pieces the whole music band (30 recorders approx.) did several competitions against other primary schools and as far as she remembers they didn't win any of them. At the age of fourteen she decided to study recorder at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de México and some months later she knew she would want to be a musician after listening to a record of Bach flute sonatas. Ms. Castelló started her musical formation studying recorder with Horacio Franco and flute with Marielena Arizpe at the Conservatorio de Música de México. Besides learning instruments and theoretical subjects she had the chance to sing intensively in choirs and her group of friends was a gang of composers and conductors who were in intense contact with contemporary music as well. In 1990 her family decided to emigrate to Montréal, Canada where she continued her recorder studies at the Université de Montréal with Francis Colpron. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in 1994.
