Andrew Beall, a versatile composer/percussionist, performs on Broadway in The Lion King. He spent a year as a cast member and snare drum soloist in the Australian stage spectacular, Rhythm of the Night. During his time “down under” he composed his Op. 1, Testament Symphony, which had its premiere in New York in 2003. “This is a Magnum Opus!” exults Jonathan Haas (Principal Percussionist, American Symphony Orchestra). His Song of Almah for Soprano, Marimba, and Strings, three-movement suite based on the Song of Solomon, was first performed in Chicago in 2008. Writes Gordon Stout: “The Song is strong, and a contains depth of honest and sincere emotion, musically.” Also in 2008, Beall’s Affirmation Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra had its premiere at Avery Fisher Hall in New York’s Lincoln Center. From a review in the Global Times: "Andrew Beall's Percussion Concerto is a piece with great passion. It received a standing ovation from the audience." The concert band version of that piece has been performed by the U.S. Navy band. Beall has performed with numerous symphony and chamber orchestras; tours with the chamber group Cordis, and presents percussion clinics at various universities. Beall serves as president of the New York chapter of the Percussion Arts Society. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, he received his M.A. from New York University.
