1. Anchoress are a hardcore band from Vancouver, BC, Canada. The inception of Anchoress can be traced back to the Spring of 2010. The fated meeting involved two dudes with beards bonding over a Ruiner shirt at a party. In the rapid, gushing friendship that followed, it was revealed that one represented a guitarist and singer looking for a rhythm section and the other represented a rhythm section looking for a guitarist and singer. The four then holed up in a garage for several months writing songs that they thought sounded fun and gnarly. In February of 2011, they entered The Hive Studios with Jesse Karr. The product of that session was the album, Set Sail, which they self released on March 4, 2011. In the first half of 2012, they have released an EP, A Night At The Movies, a full length record, Crime & Compass, and embarked on a cross-Canada tour. 2. “Anchoress” is a project by Berlin based composer, singer and artist Anna Lucia Nissen. Anchoress understands music as a way to explore spaces beyond logical boundaries, creating a world that allows for connections on both an intellectual and emotional level. With a focus on vocal delivery, she crafts arcane eulogies centered around her distinctively androgynous tenor howl. Anchoress’ songs are cinematic in the way they reveal their narratives, and she considers song writing to be like scoring an imagined film.
