There are multiple artists named Anchorage: 1) Anchorage is a neoclassical darkwave group formed in Germany in 1990. Kai-Uwe Skerra and Heiko Nitsche planned to have a band on their own after the participation in several projects. In 1991 guitarist Kai-Uwe Saffran, lead vocalist Michael Liebetrau and female vocalist Angela Grahl joined the group. This was meant to be the first official formation and in 1993 they sent a demo tape to Hyperium. Shortly after the signing of a record deal with Hyperium they began with the recording sessions for their debut album. "Tranquilly the Maelstrom Starts“ was released in 1994 and the press echo was more than enthusiastic. Some months later Michael Liebetrau, Angela Grahl and Kai-Uwe Saffran left Anchorage. But nothing could stop the rest of the band: With a bunch of gifted guest musicians they went in the studio. There Kai-Uwe Skerra and Heiko Nitsche composed and recorded during 1995 the second album "The Bleak Wooden Tower“ with the help of the mentioned guests. 2) Anchorage is a rock band based out of Colorado. After many years of shuffling members, the band has settled with a solid group comprised of vocalist Kevin Gentry, guitarist Roy Catlin, guitarist Scott Kelly, bassist Derek Arrieta, and drummer Joe Hittle. They released their first full-length album, Patience, in January 2013. 3) Anchorage is a post-hardcore/alternative rock band from Denver, Colorado.
