Artist
Anatol Liadov, also Anatoly Lyadov, (1855-1914) was one of the younger members of the Russian nationalist school of composers. He was a student of Rimsky-Korsakov at the St Petersburg Conservatory in the 1870s, and later taught there. He was regarded as a very original and creative composer who researched Russian folk music and incorporated Russian themes into his compositions. He was also known as a procrastinator. He was the original choice to compose the music for the ballet Firebird, but the commission was given to Stravinsky when Liadov revealed that he had not even begun work after the performance was already advertised.
