Amateur Hockey Club is a rock band blending 90s alternative hooks with modern emo songwriting, creating a sound that merges the melodic appeal of Third Eye Blind with the emotive energy of Hot Mulligan. Their lyrics explore themes of growing up, feeling lost, and navigating life’s transitions—topics that resonate with post-graduates and twenty-somethings facing personal upheaval. The band gained attention with their 2020 self-produced EP Figure Myself Out, which set the stage for their recent singles, “What You Wanted” and “Boxed Wine.” Collaborating with engineer and producer RJ DeMarco, the group evolved their sound, incorporating darker, edgier tones in “What You Wanted” while embracing a polished pop-rock style in “Boxed Wine.” New band members have brought fresh perspectives, helping refine their collective voice. In March 2021, Amateur Hockey Club partnered with LeestaVall Sound Recordings to produce an exclusive, straight-to-vinyl live session. Known for their dynamic performances, the band has played venues across Buffalo, Rochester, and Fredonia, including a notable appearance at the 2021 Music is Art festival.
