Amamiaynu (アマミアイヌ) is a collaboration of Ainu and Amami Island artists, featuring Ikue Asazaki (朝崎郁恵), Rekpo, Kapiw & Apappo, Oki (オキ) and the late Umeko Ando (安東ウメ子). The blend of Ainu and Amami feels entirely natural, despite the musicians coming from the very opposite ends of Japan. Constantly surprising and original, the music on their 2019 album is the opposite of new age. Evoking the spirit of legendary Ainu singer Umeko Ando, her voice is resurrected on two tracks. Ando, along with other Ainu female vocalists, is accompanied by Oki's tonkori string instrument..
