Artist
Performing songwriter Amalie Riis is a 21 year old Danish artist whose roots are planted in classical music and traditional Danish hymns, but with songs reaching further into the American folk tradition and the alternative/country genre. Amalie first discovered contemporary folk and singer/songwriter music while travelling as a child with her mother in the states. Since that time, songwriters such as Carole King, Tracy Chapman, James Taylor and Joni Mitchell have had a great impact on her way of writing, which is mainly in English, though she also writes in her native language. With great help and patience from producers, band members and close friends Jacob Horney, Jon Kruse, Ole Møller and Morten Maltesen, her debut album "Places Where We Go", was released in Denmark in 2005, resulting in national radio airplay on Denmarks' P4. For the last 3 years Amalie has been playing at different venues in Denmark, as well as in Ireland, Sweden and the US. In July 2005, she decided to go to Nashville, on her own. Her longing for - listening, playing and learning - resulted in returning to Denmark, after a month, with many gigs, co-writes, new friends and colleagues adding to her experience. Playing an average of 40 gigs a year for the last 3 years, Amalie has become a skilled performer, both solo as well as with the band.
