In the remaining months of their final year of high school, friends John Blomster (Fixed, Paperstrapredux) and Daniel Paez (Animal Funk, Streetlight Romance) started playing music together with their acccomplice Thomas Beale in the band Sera Gloria (Spring 2006- Summer 2006). With Beale on guitar, Paez on drums, and Blomster on dual keyboards, Sera Gloria performed ambient post rock influenced by the likes of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, and A Silver Mt. Zion, with an uncanny emphasis on expressions of space. The group played three shows, their last at McClatchy High School for the final performance of Blomster's other indie post-core band, Fixed (2002-2006). The trio dissolved shortly after. Paez and Blomster, however, continued to play music together and soon recorded two songs in the summer of 2006. These songs would eventually become "White Hearts in Wind Stars" and "Refuge From Fire," featuring John on guitar/bass and Daniel mastering keyboards/programming. Using all programmed beats and synths, the duo's sound evolved beyond the shoegaze style of their previous band to incorporate electronic elements and, at times, intense spasticness. The unnamed project was put on hold from Fall 06 - Spring 07 as John left for a brief period to attend UC Santa Cruz. Paez recorded in Sacramento in the group Animal Funk with producer Alex Noble.
