The original lineup of Alta May formed in December 1998 after Marcus Pia (Anodyne/PLG) joined Denver transplants Garrett Shavlik (The Fluid/Spell) and Erik Roper (Cold Crank). The trio played their first show together in July 1999 opening for Love Battery and Tad Doyle's band, Hog Molly. Recorded by Jack Endino and Jon Ervie, Dark Days also received much airplay across the US, Canada, and in the UK.
