Now based in Toronto, Alister Johnson a.k.a. DJ Catalist lived most of his life in Peterborough, NH, a very small town. He was first influenced by the sounds of hip-hop producers DJ Premier, RZA, Pete Rock & Large Professor. He began making hip-hop beats on his computer armed with a turntable and an audio sampling program called Cool Edit. Alister is currently working as a producer/engineer at The Hive, a Toronto recording studio. He has worked with local artists, done his own production, and remixed artists. He has branched out from the hip-hop sound into a more uptempo overall sound, and has experimented with broken beats and percussion flavored tracks.
