We are receiving it. The signal from space. An artificial, extraterrestrial signal. Loud and clear. They are speaking to us. But who are they and what are they saying? That is what we are here to find out. We have put the finest minds in the world to work at the Extraterrestrial Contact Institute, located deep in the rain forests of Oregon, in order to answer these questions. It was here in 1922 that the founder of our institute, Finnish immigrant Dr. Loviis Tarmosisu, built massive radio towers for the sole purpose of listening to the heavens for voices from other worlds. This was almost 40 years before the first inklings of SETI would take shape and proves how luminous of a visionary Dr. Tarmosisu truly was. He was ridiculed at the time and, rather than face the continued scorn of the scientific community, he decided to shroud the institute in secrecy while quietly recruiting the top minds of his time to work with him. They scanned the skies for decades before finally finding their first extraterrestrial signal, known to them as Grid 221B40104gamma, late in 2003. The signal was loud and clear. But it was also gibberish. It took more than five years to decode the first data that they received. And it turned out to be something extraordinarily odd: a piece of music entitled, “I Am A Dork”. Is there a deeper meaning to the music? Is there something in the signal we have ignored? Why would they go to all the trouble of sending this message across billions of miles of space?
