Alexander SIGMAN (1980/USA) is a composer of solo, chamber, electroacoustic, and multi-media works. He is currently completing a doctorate at Stanford University, having studied primarily with Brian Ferneyhough. Further postgraduate studies were pursued with Chaya Czernowin at the University for Music and Performing Arts/Vienna (2007), as well as the Institute for Sonology at the Royal Conservatory, The Hague (2007-2008). During 2008-2009, Sigman was awarded a residency at the Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart). In June 2007, he was composer-in-residence at the Festival Musiques Démesurées (Clermont-Ferrand, France). Sigman's music has been performed at major festivals, venues, and institutions throughout the US and Europe by renowned ensembles including the Arditti Quartet, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, Ensemble SurPlus, and Ensemble Ascolta, as well as soloists such as Magnus Andersson, Eliot Gattegno, and Françoise Rivalland. Since 2007, he has been Managing Director of the 12-member Netherlands-based Ensemble Modelo62 (www.modelo62.com) and Co-Editor of Search Journal for New Music and Culture (www.searchnewmusic.org).
