Alex da Ponte is an indie pop & alternative rock artist from Memphis, TN. She started playing guitar and writings songs in April 2006 and in 2008 formed the band Yeah, Arturo. She released 2 EPs [HOWL (2008) and START A WAR (2010)] under that band name. Now releasing music under her own name, Alex has teamed up with Ardent Studios producer and bass player Pete Matthews, along with drummer Garrett Marshall (son of Hank Williams Jr.’s drummer Bill Marshall) and they are taking the scene by storm. Drawing on diverse influences and taking cues from history, literature, and culture, da Ponte’s lyrics are unafraid : of controversy, of change, of Webster’s Collegiate. In an era of lowest common denominators and unprecedented banality, Alex da Ponte shatters preconceptions and replaces them with singularity. Released on June 7, 2012, the full-length album NIGHTMARES, recorded at High Low Studios, demonstrates how truly great recorded sound can be. Raw and moving, each song takes the listener on a personal journey of discovery that begins in heartbreak and ends in pure cool.
