Alas Earwax! is a wizard rock band from the Seattle-ish area formed in April 2007 when one musically-inclined individual randomly decided to summarize all six then-published Harry Potter books in a one-minute rap. He was later invited to open a show for the Parselmouths, wrote a few extra songs to fill time, and it all spiraled out of control from there. Mr Earwax, as his adoring fans call him, released his first CD, “Wands Don’t Kill People…I Do”, in July 2007 when the 7th Harry Potter book was released. He has been promising a second CD since sometime around December 2007, leaving his fans to dangle for six months in eager anticipation. Finally, though, he’s defeated the forces of laziness and dis-inspiration to produce “Alas Earwax! And the Power of Sheer Luck and More Talented Friends”, which contains many of the same songs “Wands” does. Only re-mastered so that they sparkle more. Refusing to be confined to a single genre, Mr. Earwax pursues a different style for every song, embellishing each with a sarcastic humor based largely on his unique interpretation of the books. His most popular song, “There’s A Face (In the Back of my Head)”, is a bizarre interpretation of how Professor Quirrel joined up with Lord Voldemort, sung in a morbidly happy campfire-song style. Expect similar snarky-ness from all of his songs, and you won’t be disappointed. For a full posting of his lyrics, visit earwaxrock.livejournal.com .
