Above the Atlantic first came into existence in October of 2009 with a simple goal in mind – to make creative, honest rock music that could be appreciated by indie lovers and radio junkies alike. Singer/guitarist Matt Martin grew up playing acoustic music in Atlanta, GA, but when he moved to the Cleveland area, he knew that he wanted to explore new musical horizons. He wasn’t quite sure how to accomplish this, however, until he met bassist Robbie Bookshar and drummer Ricky Hamilton. The three guys quickly discovered an incredible chemistry and a love for making music together. In just 4 months, their songs caught the attention of producer Mike Brown, who first heard the band at a live performance in Cleveland Heights. Soon after, the band found themselves under a production contract and eager to begin recording their first EP at Lava Room Recording Studios. The band released their EP, “In Transit,” in July of 2010 to great critical acclaim, and headed back into the studio in early August to begin working on their full length record. Today, the band is hard at work preparing for the album’s release in mid December, and couldn’t be happier with how things are sounding. Though the band is young, they’ve quickly developed a unique sound, with each member contributing their own creativity to the songwriting process.
