There are two groups using the name Abilene, one is a former band from Chicago, IL and the other a quartet from Miami, FL. ---- Miami, FL quartet: Abilene is a classical-fusion ensemble which takes its eclectic musical inspiration from the colorful, chic, and contemporary city they call home — Miami. They unashamedly find their relevance by looking to the past and reinventing the old. Members Joshua Spacht (piano / percussion), Katie Foto Berry (violin / vocals), David Molina (synths / percussion), and Gaylyn Foto (cello / vocals) combine their unique backgrounds and influences into a genre-bending style which marries classical idioms and instrumentation with modern techniques and production. The quartet’s haunting melodies, unconventional use of everyday objects for percussion, and love of film music create an unforgettable listening experience. ---- Chicago, IL band: Abilene was a post-hardcore and math rock band from Chicago, IL. The band was formed in 1998 by guitarist Alex Dunham (of Hoover, Radio Flyer, Regulator Watts & Wind of Change), drummer Scott Adamson (of Chisel Drill Hammer & Just a Fire), and bassist Craig Ackerman (of Lustre King, Bloodiest & Sterling). In 2000, the group released their debut album, Abilene, a "six-song self-titled slow-burner" on the now-defunct Slowdime label. Before their next album, Fred Erskine (of Hoover & June of 44) joined the band to play trumpet. Together, they then released and recorded their second album, Two Guns, Twin Arrows,
