Artist
A product of Southside Jamaica, Queens, Aasim was poised to be among the hip-hop ruling class when he picked up a microphone at the age of 12. Influenced by Queens’ luminaries such as LL Cool J, Nas as well as the late greats, Notorious B.I.G. and 2 Pac, Aasim style of rhyme is as complete as it comes in this day and age. Explicit with his words, yet aggressive in delivery, Aasim can get raw with the grittiest rappers in the streets, yet prolific enough to garner the respect of hip-hop thinking man. While new to many, Aasim is no stranger to the rap game. He garnered a reputation as a prodigy when at the age of 17 he signed to Loud Records as part of the labels second wave of new school acts that included Dead Prez and the late Big Pun. Too young to even enter a club, Aasim honed his skills by watching the late Big Pun records his classic debut, Capitol Punishment. It was during those sessions that Aasim learned the ins and outs of song structure. But right as Aasim was prepping for his inevitable debut, Aasim was entagled in a legal bind that prevented him from advancing further into his career. Discouraged by the situation he began to feel sour towards the game. Worn out from the bullshit, Aasim eventually disappeared from the rap circuit. Making matters worst, his home of Loud records closed for good. Yet Aasim stayed in touch with former A&R Sean C and production partner LV (Fat Joe, Terror Squad). Together the 3 started working on new songs developing his song writing
