After 20 years of writing under the moniker dep, and releasing his final album We Are the Lights That Will Not Go Out, Asheville, NC native Danny Peck was ready for a change of pace, and started up a new project called A Defiant Heart, releasing his debut album, At the Edge of the World on June 16, 2020. His music has been described as timeless, introspective, and epic. He draws inspiration from epic instrumentals like Hans Zimmer and Explosions In The Sky, to more subdued, instrumental ballads reminiscent of artists like Ólafur Arnalds and A Winged Victory for the Sullen. As dep, he was always known to pivot between genres depending on his mood, and he carries that tradition in to A Defiant Heart.
