about

Formed in late 2002 by Doug Kallmeyer (strings, electronics, visuals) and Justin Mader (electronics, visuals), 302 Acid combines real-time audio and video manipulations with live instrumentation, embracing the challenges of coalescing music and visual media with new technology. This approach has led the group to perform at a variety of venues, including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the famous 9:30 Club in DC, as well as garnering mention in popular culture magazine Rolling Stone and a photograph in Spin magazine (performing during a protest in front of the US Capitol Building), all without the aid of a booking agent, a press kit, or even a demo recording. Taking on full production and recording of their music, the EP Ailanthus Altissima was released in January 2004 on DC indie label Hackshop Records and distributed through Dischord Direct. Immediately following a U.S. tour of standard venues, art openings, live radio shows and burned-out punk rock basements, 302 began work on their second release, Even Calls. Through a musical co-conspirator, one Gel-Sol, this new work was brought to the attention of Nottingham, UKʼs collectorsʼ label, Emit Records. Emit immediately signed the group, releasing Even Calls in May of 2005 and providing world-wide distribution through Arabesque and the iTunes music store under the title 302Acid0005. This in turn has led to critical acclaim in international publications and performances throughout the US, Canada, and Europe—fe
