Artist
Liu Huan (Simplified: 刘欢 ; Traditional: 劉歡) is a renowned Chinese pop singer-songwriter, music professor, and philanthropist, credited as one of China's pioneers for modern pop, and often being referred to interntionally as the "King of Chinese Pop". He has written and sang songs for a variety of media, and has been China's music representative for various national and international ceremonies, such as the Olympics and the Asian Games. He is also fluent in English and French, and has occasionally performed in these languages as well. Despite his fame, he has been known to be a humble man with a passion for education and community involvement. Born August 26, 1963 in Tianjin, China, Liu Huan was interested in performing since elementary school, participating in local comedy performances and Peking operas. In college, he studied music and French literature and began serious songwriting. He officially began his music career at the end of college in 1985, after winning a university singing competition hosted by the French Embassy of China. The following year he garnered attention after performing various songs and covers on CCTV before being commissioned to sing the song "心中的太阳" for the popular drama 雪城 ("Snow City"), going on to win several retrospective awards for it. The next year he was invited again to sing the song "少年壮志不言愁" for the popular drama "便衣警察" ("Plainclothes Police"), garnering more popularity (and winning more retrospective awards for it even as recent as 2024).
