Yaser Bakhtiari (یاسر بختیاری), known as YAS (یاس) is an Iranian rapper. He was born in 1982 in Tehran, Iran. After the Bam earthquake in Iran, Yas was inspired to write his first song, Bam. Though he faced criticism from an audience unaccustomed to rap music, his efforts were eventually successful. As of 2009, six of his 10 songs have been granted permission to be released in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Yas' songs include CD-ro Beshkan ("Break the CD"), decrying a sex-tape which destroyed the career of an Iranian actress, and Hoviat-e Man ("My Identity"), about his pride in Persian culture.
