(b Reykjavík, 16 July 1938). Icelandic composer. He studied in Reykjavík and the USA (under R. G. Harris, Gaburo and Hiller) and has worked in Reykjavík as a teacher, critic and broadcaster. He is internationally known as a pianist and composer: his works are in diverse styles and genres, tending to assimilate seemingly unrelated elements.
