Älska formed in New Castle, Pa on Easter Sunday 2009 after Brian and Laura realized they were both looking for someone to play music with. After a few practices in Brian's attic Sad Songs and Slow Traffic was complete. Laura had been trying to put that into song form since the days of her old band Scene on TV. Originally they were going to add a bassist and drummer to the mix, but soon realized they worked much better as a two piece. They had played a few shows and recorded a 6 song EP under the name Second Hand Smoke, but upon learning that name was taken by several other bands changed their name to Älska, which means love in Swedish. Älska has been described by some as hybrid folk. Laura and Brian don't really know what to call it... other than music.
