"You Put Me On A Shelf" (2011) started as a 6-8 track debut EP from newcomer Dex01 but then developed into a 10 track demo album with an additional 2 bonus songs since writing began. The album covers Punk, Punk-Rock and even Comedy genres, each song wildly different from the last yet still fits together as a whole. The tracks get progressively more layered and sophisticated as Alex reveals different aspects of himself from rebellious "This Doesn't Concern You" to the multi-layered and meaningful "Where It Starts And Where We Are". Finishing the album is "Working Man's Lament" a comedic take on the sorrows of the working class, and quite similar in style to the work of Jonathan Coulton, to complete the journey. Working not in a studio, but in the comfort of his own bedroom, Dex plays all guitar, bass and keyboard parts, sings lead vocals and harmonies and thanks to Garage Band can implement customised drum loops as his own 'one-man-band'. Being in the demo stage, the album is not yet fully realised (hence the free downloads) but aims to re-record all songs with professional recording equipment and add the finishing touches to his debut album in his spare time.
