The XIII EP was originally released Halloween of 2007. The album was written and recorded the day before Halloween within a matter of several hours with only a short break to go to Health class. Limited to just 13 copies for the original release, it has since been released in Korea on the EP Collection which showcased the Made In Korea EP and the D-Beat demo. That release was also limited, though to 100 copies instead. This was Hellking's debut release and was recorded while he was in the middle of recording his first full length. Recorded on the border of lo-fi and with rushed production, Hellking has stated that he "wanted to get the feel of a band having practice, to capture that energy on a recording" as well as to fool people that this was a "real" band and not just a one man band. On the release, there was a bonus 14th track (contrary to belief that this is only a cliche 13 track concept) which featured a "live" performance from a group called the Devil's Whores (inspired by the song "Devil's Whorehouse" by the Misfits) and featured a cover set of 13 Misfits songs.
