Album
'Worship Decay' is the first of three standalone singles released by British metalcore band Sylosis following their 2020 album, Cycle of Suffering. Despite being released only 10 months after the album, 'Worship Decay' marks a drastic stylistic shift for the band. Although the band was always primarily metalcore, their earlier albums incorporated a range of styles from other metal genres, primarily thrash metal and melodic death metal. 'Worship Decay' stripped out these other influences to present a more simplistic and formulaic metalcore sound, similar to guitarist/vocalist Josh Middleton's other band, Architects. This led to more popularity for Sylosis in the mainstream metal scene, but also drew heavy criticism from existing fans of the band. The abrupt shift in musical style continued with the following singles, Immovable Stone and Heavy Is the Crown, culminating in the release of their 2023 album, A Sign of Things to Come. 'Worship Decay' became the band's most-played song on streaming services for some time, before eventually being overtaken again by 'Empty Prophets' from Cycle of Suffering.
