In January of 2009, Aron Van Alstine and Kindred Spirits independently released Volume 1, "Works in Progress," as a digital EP via last.fm, reverbnation, and aronvanalstine.ning.com. These tracks are produced, written, arranged by Aron, and feature collaborations with members of the April Hendrix Band and Dr.Surf. All tracks were mixed and recorded at Magic Yellow Recording Studios in Ventura, CA. These three tracks show a groovy, jazzy side to Aron's songwriting. "Get Together" is reminiscent of Bill Withers and the Isley Brothers. The latin funk of "Message to Myself" blends The Meters with Cal Tjader. Finally, "Up in the Air" is a psychedelic jazz ballad in the vein of Stevie Wonder. In addition to recording his own material, Aron performs with many groups in the Ventura area. He is a regular bassist with the April Hendrix Band and Dr.Surf and tenor in the Ventura County Master Chorale. He has also collaborated with Jonathan McEuen, Fantusia, Tony Kalife, Nathan McEuen, Johnny Castorina, Brad Buley, Kurt Sodergren, Rob Crocker, and Sunny Erickson.
