Widescreen is a debut album by Rupert Holmes’ released in 1974 on Epic Records (KE 32864). It spans approximately 51 minutes and showcases signature blend of pop-rock songwriting with lush orchestration. The record is generally classified as Pop/Rock with strong Soft Rock and Orchestral Pop influences. Holmes himself described the project as “film-rock” – each song was treated like a mini-movie with elaborate arrangements, sound effects and dialogue. In his first album, Holmes established himself as a teller of witty, character-driven “story songs” backed by rich orchestration.
