White Nights was the first american recording for Vladimir Shafranov. Recorded in RCA studios in New York Jan. 4 and 5 1900 with at the time his working trio with George Mraz and Al Foster and was intended to be his first of several recordings for RCA owned jazz label Novus. However shortly after the label was discontinued and the project rejected. After a long search Concord Records was contacted and they released the album on their Jazz Alliance line. It has been sold only moderately well, mainly in New York and California. However in 1999 Atelier Sawano has released it in Japan and it was instant success. Considered to be one of the classics of jazz piano it continues to be one of the best selling jazz albums. It enabled the company to release 10 more albums by Vladimir some of them included his reunion with bass great George Mraz and always excellent Billy Hart on drums User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
