Whatever Happened was released Oct. 19, 2010, and builds on the pop sensibilities of Love Callin', the debut from Shady Cats. Retaining the rich vocal harmonies of the first record, Whatever Happened adds a dose of dirty guitars, upping the "rock" element in the band's songs. This time, rather than employing multiple producers and a small army of musicians, the band's core members (Grady Crumpler, songwriting, guitars, vocals; and Bill Eagen, drums) worked only with producer John Custer and bassist/keyboardist Neal Chapman. Custer produced eight of the album's eleven songs; Crumpler produced the other three, two of which were mixed by Ian Schreier. Recording began in the first half of 2007 in Crumpler's home studio. Drums to "Whatever Happened" and "I Felt The Love" were tracked, along with guide vocals and a rough guitar. Further production took place at John Custer's studio. This is also how "Without You" and "With You" were recorded. "You, Kaye," "Slippin' Away," Girl Scout," and "Monopoly" were recorded entirely at John Custer's. Remarkably, Custer's studio moved to three separate locations during the production of Whatever Happened, but his sonic signature remains consistent. "Down To London," "Rock Bottom," and "Devilish Tongue" were recorded entirely at Crumpler's home studio, nicknamed "Happy Dungeon." Early in 2010, the album's title song was signed to a non-exclusive deal with Crucial Music, who pitched to song to the TV show, Californication, for season
