Carol Nethen's first release "A View From the Bridge" on the new age label Narada played considerably well on the New Age charts, given she was a composer who'd really not set out to be a performer. After a filmscoring degree from the University of Miami, Nethen had spent 10 years composing for film and TV when Narada found her. At the "dawn" of MIDI technology, the label asked her to join the Narada Mystique group. Working with Narada on her second release, Nethen had been captivated by more band-based material like the Yellowjackets and set out to make her mark in the early 90's with a groove-based fusion jazz sound with tunes like "Under Full Sail" and "Thanksgiving". But, Narada wanted a more typical new age sound, specifically solo piano. Just as she was about to settle into their request with a concept album called "Unburdening Light", a solo piano release, she got call from Fox TV asking to contract her for the weekly show "America's Most Wanted". Her heart had always been in filmscoring and mentor composer Jay Chattaway commented that the Fox gig was " Just what the doctor ordered!" By then, Nethen had an ensemble of choice synths and had come to know many performers in the DC area. She chose to go to work on her filmscoring craft and in 10 years produced over 200 episodes of the weekly show.
