“What Makes You Beautiful” is One Direction’s debut single, released from their first album Up All Night. Lyrically, the song is about a boy trying to boost his partners' self-esteem by proclaiming his love to them. According to Savan Kotecha, who helped write the song, says it was written for his wife. A music video was released on August 19, 2011, almost a month before the song was released as a single. The track also features a B-side, “Na Na Na”, which was also included on some special editions of Up All Night. The song was extremely successful, topping the charts in the UK, Ireland, Scotland, and Mexico. It also went top ten in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, and the US.
