Westlake is the first solo album by David Westlake, singer-songwriter of English indie band The Servants. Released 1987 (and re-issued 1993) by Creation Records, Westlake was the first record to feature Luke Haines, who later described it as “a minor classic”. Martyn P. Casey (The Triffids, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) plays bass; Alsy MacDonald (The Triffids) plays drums. Alternative versions of three songs (“The Word Around Town”, “Dream Come True” and “Everlasting”) feature in a 1987 BBC radio session by David Westlake and The Go-Betweens. Demo versions of “The Word Around Town” and “She Grew and She Grew” appear on the Servants’ album Small Time / Hey Hey We’re The Manqués (2012).
