Album
"Unreleased" is the first compilation album by American singer-songwriter Ethel Cain, released exclusively via Bandcamp on February 28, 2020. The album is a collection of demos, early versions, and throwaway tracks recorded between 2018 and 2019. The compilation consists of 12 tracks, primarily featuring early demos of songs that would later be reworked for official releases, as well as several standalone pieces. Notably, the album includes the original demo of "Golden Age" and an early demo of "Knuckle Velvet", both of which received final, polished versions on her official debut EP, Golden Age. Other tracks, such as "Powerline Valley" and "Verona", are outtakes from the Golden Age EP sessions that did not make the final cut. "Starvation" and "Room 209" were initially released under Cain's former musical alias, White Silas, before being consolidated under the Ethel Cain moniker for this release. All songs on the album were written and produced by Ethel Cain herself, with the sole exception of "Knuckle Velvet", which was co-produced by Yah Wav. The album was made available on Bandcamp as a "name your price" download, a common practice among independent artists. Although it was initially suggested that Unreleased would be removed from the platform, it remains available for purchase and streaming on Bandcamp. The compilation was followed by a second volume, Unreleased II, on May 21, 2020, which compiled another 10 tracks of demos and random recordings from 2017 to 2019.
