Two Hands is the fourth studio album by the American band Big Thief, released through 4AD on October 11, 2019. It is a follow-up to their third studio album, U.F.O.F., which was released five months earlier. Two Hands is described as U.F.O.F.'s "earth twin." Recording for the album primarily took place at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas in July 2018, and production was handled by Andrew Sarlo, who had produced all of their albums prior. Days after the band finished recording U.F.O.F. at Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, Washington in June 2018, recording for Two Hands began. As stated in the album's press release, the studio Two Hands was primarily recorded in, Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, was chosen due to its "vast desert location." All songs from Two Hands were recorded live with almost no overdubs, and all but two songs feature entirely live vocal takes. Mixing and production was handled by longtime producer Andrew Sarlo, alongside the band's drummer, James Krivchenia. It was mixed by Sarlo and Krivchenia at Bunker Studios in Brooklyn, New York in October 2018, and also at Sarlo's Cabin and Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, California. Two Hands is the most recent album by Big Thief to have production from Andrew Sarlo, as he is absent on their records since. "Replaced", the second to last song on the album, is featured as its original demo recording, which was recorded in a cabin in Topanga Canyon in February 2019, and was co-written by band members Adrianne Lenker
