Ffrench digs deep into his love of jazz for ‘“Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” before another original, “Winter Nights,” a tender paean to the sanctuary of home at Christmas. “Mary’s Boy Child” and “Fairytale of New York” both take on new, gentle, intimate characters while Ffrench’s own “Christmas Story” draws to a touching close this remarkable musician’s tribute to a magical time of year.
