Originally a TV series, "Time Trax" was an American-Australian science fiction series that aired in 1993 and 1994. A series tie-in game for the Nintendo SNES was created and released by Malibu Games in the US in April of 1994. A Sega Genesis version planned, developed, and even released to publications for review, before being dropped. The studio had hired Tim Follin to make a soundtrack for the game, and the work was unreleased in any capacity until a prototype of the Sega Genesis game, in a fully finished state, was leaked in 2013, which included the Tim Follin created soundtrack. Counter to other video game music synthesis of the time, the Sega Genesis used an FM synthesis sound chip, the Yamaha YM2612, which allowed for the creation of complex and smooth instrument sounds, even without the use of sampling.
