By the time Danish artist GNOM’s debut album Bitumenic arrives at fourth track “This Strain Of The Self,” the warped dance beat of “Coagulate” and enigmatic ambience of “Hark Hark! The Lark Does Liquesce” have already guided the listener through the peaks and valleys of GNOM’s multi-faceted sound. “This Strain Of The Self” sounds like the first breakthrough in a long journey – it could soundtrack a big budget sci-fi movie where the main character stumbles upon an alien civilization hidden in the forest. Grand scale synths and the presence of Fire-Toolz’s razored shrieks make the moment even bigger, while each section of the song expresses an emotional wanderlust, a noble desire to explore even ugly territory. It makes sense that this album was an outlet for creator Anders Bach to work through inner turmoil. Written, produced and mixed by Anders Bach. Co-produced and co-mixed by Brian Batz.
