Released in stages across 2024 and early 2025, The Wicked Ones marks Devourer fully realized. The album was first unveiled in full on YouTube on May 7, 2024, as a singular act of release, before reaching streaming services the following day. Its physical form followed later, issued as a digipack CD on January 15, 2025 by Iron, Blood & Death Corp. — the Mexican label that has carried earlier Devourer works. Co-composed by John and Sanna Falk, the songs are carved from a stripped two-guitar framework rather than the four-layered storms of previous albums, a reduction that only intensified its force, resulting in the heaviest and most commanding sound Devourer has achieved. Sanna’s lyrics on The Wicked Ones form a unified descent through extinction, inner collapse, and merciless cosmic indifference. Across visions of ancestral corruption, nuclear purification, frozen wastelands, and post-human aftermaths, the words blur the line between external annihilation and psychological ruin. Humanity is portrayed as both perpetrator and fertilizer—consumed by war, fear, decay, and obsession, only to be erased and repurposed by colder forces that neither judge nor mourn. Recurring images of rot, radiation, ice, and self-devouring consciousness bind the album together, presenting death not as an ending but as a process already underway, observed with grim clarity and absolute lack of consolation.
