Remember the concept in "The Matrix" where everything you think of as reality is just an illusion? In "The Thirteenth Floor" you start on the middle level of reality, where computer programmers have constructed a fully-functional cyber reality in a different time frame of the known world. Slowly the head programmer learns that what he's achieved is only unique because it's the first time it's happened - within a created illusory reality.
